This is a continuation of the semiotic approach developed by Eduardo Kohn in his book "How Forests Think", transposed to listening, recording and composition.
Wong Langit (‘sky people’, in Indonesian) arises from questions voiced by the anthropologist about the mechanisms of co-influence developed by forest peoples with the non-human entities inhabiting their environment.
This work (started in 2019, and still in progress), consists of recordings made in the rainforests of north-east Kalimantan (Borneo), alongside the Punan Tubu and Dayak Kenyah peoples. Wong Langit is a transcription of human and non-human subjectivities using sound, in a specific context. The work focuses on listening and how it influences behaviour beyond social structures.
