AUscultare, un éloge de l'erreur

Commissioned by the Musée d'Arts de Nantes as part of the exhibition Hyper Sensible ‘Un regard sur la sculpture hyperréaliste Hyper Sensitive – insight into hyperrealistic sculpture.

This work addresses the issue of reproduction and its impossible perfection, comparing the copy of an object with its recording. Here, the topic of hyperrealism is treated as a counterpoint supporting the dysfunctions of a copying process.

Process:

• Three 3D printers are used in the same room (‘lab’).
• All three machines are instructed to reproduce the same object (a microphone).
• Each printing operation is recorded using different sound recording modes.
• Attention is drawn to every malfunction.
• Printing is relaunched, after each failure, until the machine produces a copy of the object regarded as finished.
