Sound ekta

The river constitutes, at the scale of a continent, a privileged channel for communication, an irregular line dividing the sce-nery and from which a whole range of human activity unfolds. As punctuation of this path, the port is like a node, a platform for commercial and social exchange, a particular site bringing a unique universe to our ears. Industrial building zones, noma-dic habitat or mere transit areas, due to its specific sound environments and its acoustic properties, it becomes a unique ground for work, bringing to-gether a mix of languages, the hum of the city, aquatic and subaquatic motion, navigating activities. Part of the sound environment perceptible in the port and on the banks can be heard from a reversed pers-pective from the river, bringing in numerous modified sound samples from the outside. Sound Ekta is a performance /installation carried out in the cities of Ruse (Bulgaria), Belgrade (Serbia) and Vukovar (Croatia). These three interventions consisted in diffusing and mixing underwater phonographic works collected during my journey on the Danube. The resulting signal, diffused through a sub-aquatic device conceived for the purpose, was recorded then diffused on the river banks in order to become audible for the audience. Through the aquatic mass, acting like a natural dis-torting filter, the device takes in a recomposed external env-ironment together with a sub-aquatic one, operating in a random and unpredictable way.
